Mt. Snow race report:
June 6th, 2010
Plattekill Bike Park and Mount Snow have teamed up in 2010, to bring racersa unique Downhill Race Series titled “Eastern States Cup Series”. June 6thkicked off Mount Snow’s first race, and the second stop of the Eastern StatesCup. Mount Snow lived up to itsreputation as a true classic of downhill. The soul of the course was ‘slickrock highway’, from the top of the Canyon Express lift, and ending at themountain’s base. The course consistently entered and exited woods, with a finalsprint on an access road to the finish. Mother Nature was notorious once again with rain, ‘whetting’ a true mountainbiker’s appetite. Practice mid-day Saturday was interrupted by thunderstormsand large storm cells. Lifts reopened for a final hour. At 4PM practice endedand committed racers dealt with tornado watches until 8PM.
Sunday started with rain into practice, and likewise, rain continued intermittentlyduring racing. The course was slick in spots giving riders issues. Consideringthe warnings and predictions for the weekend’s weather, Mount Snow lucked out, though mud was abundant all weekend. The fastest race time was set by Geritt Beytagh (4:21) by a comfortable 15seconds; rounding out the Pro field was Benjamin Moody (4:36) and Richie Rude(4:51), respectively. The dash for cash attracted Category 1 riders too. Takingthe win in Cat 1 19-39 was Spooky Bike’s Nic Patalano (4:53), followed by DrummerRacing’s Jack Williams (4:56), and on the podium’s bubble, Eric Bercume (5:05).Kyle Karpuska of Team VonCooper/GT finished fourth.
The next stop of the Eastern States Cup will be at Mount Snow on June 26th& 27th; riders can possibly expect a different course.EndFragment
