Mt. Snow race report:
June 6th, 2010
Plattekill Bike Park and Mount Snow have teamed up in 2010, to bring racersa unique Downhill Race Series titled “Eastern States Cup Series”. June 6thkicked off Mount Snow’s first race, and the second stop of the Eastern StatesCup. Mount Snow lived up to itsreputation as a true classic of downhill. The soul of the course was ‘slickrock highway’, from the top of the Canyon Express lift, and ending at themountain’s base. The course consistently entered and exited woods, with a finalsprint on an access road to the finish. Mother Nature was notorious once again with rain, ‘whetting’ a true mountainbiker’s appetite. Practice mid-day Saturday was interrupted by thunderstormsand large storm cells. Lifts reopened for a final hour. At 4PM practice endedand committed racers dealt with tornado watches until 8PM.
Sunday started with rain into practice, and likewise, rain continued intermittentlyduring racing. The course was slick in spots giving riders issues. Consideringthe warnings and predictions for the weekend’s weather, Mount Snow lucked out, though mud was abundant all weekend. The fastest race time was set by Geritt Beytagh (4:21) by a comfortable 15seconds; rounding out the Pro field was Benjamin Moody (4:36) and Richie Rude(4:51), respectively. The dash for cash attracted Category 1 riders too. Takingthe win in Cat 1 19-39 was Spooky Bike’s Nic Patalano (4:53), followed by DrummerRacing’s Jack Williams (4:56), and on the podium’s bubble, Eric Bercume (5:05).Kyle Karpuska of Team VonCooper/GT finished fourth.
The next stop of the Eastern States Cup will be at Mount Snow on June 26th& 27th; riders can possibly expect a different course.EndFragment

June3, 2010; Conshohocken, PA, USA: Dan McDonald, Director of Gravity East, announced today that Voncooper Video Productions has signed-on as thepresenting sponsor of the Gravity East presented byVoncooper.com downhill series at least through the end of the 2010 season. The announcement comes as the series prepares for its second 2010 event at Pennsylvania’s Seven Springs Resort on June 13. Voncooper Productions was founded by Willem Cooper in 2006. Based in Newport, Rhode Island, Cooper also sponsors a racing team on the tough East Coast mountain bike scene. Though known in the cycling industry for their action sports videos, including last year’s Gravity East highlight reel,Voncooper Productions also provides video production for business, weddings and, “anything else that may need video,” says Cooper. Ken Getchell, whose PR firm, SpectaSport, handles the Gravity East Series presented by VonCooper.com, saysVoncooper is at the top of the list of production companies for racingsports. “As the PR guy for the series, of course I’m going to say good things about their new sponsor,” said Getchell recently. “Butthe reality is, Willem is one of the few guys I’ve worked with that notonly understands the artistic side, but also the commercial side of thevideo business. His videos aren’t just pretty pictures; they’re edited so they perfectly compliment the story we’re also trying to tell in print. Even more important is that Willem understands the time frames of the media business. I’ve worked with other producers, and they just can’t meet the timeframes that modern media requires. Voncooper’s tight and compelling highlight video of Massanutten’s Yee Ha! Downhill, by comparison, was already published on a number of websites by Monday morning following the race. It takes a real pro to hit timelines like that and still provide an excellent product. For his part, Cooper soft-pedals the marketing rhetoric. “We’re reliable and you get what you’re expecting, or better,” he says simply. Team Voncooper
Gravity East Round 1
Massanutten Resort, McGayetsvill, VA.
This weekend was the first round of the Gravity East Seriesand was also the first weekend on a downhill bike for most of the team.
For Team Voncooper it was a weekend to test out our newbikes and get to know the new teammates Adam Mores and Tim White. Friday was course inspection. We spentmost of the day dialing in our suspension and getting the bikes really readyfor the season. After only a few runs all of the team members felt great on thebikes. For everyone on the team our goals were to put down a sold race run andgain confidence on the new GT Fury.
Adam Morse ended up in 11th place in the Proclass. Considering Adam drove all the way from Seattle Washington to this race,it was a great result.
Tim White was less than one second off of Adams time andended up 12th in Pro. Tim had a clean run, but knows where to makeimprovements.
Willem Cooper put together a smooth run that he was happywith and ended up in 7th in Category 1 19-29. He knows he needs towork on carrying speed throughout his whole run and is confident he can breaktop 5 at the next race.
Jake Baxter smashed and bashed threw the rocks to end up in13th place in Category 1 19-29. He knows he needs to work on hisfitness from this weekend and plans on doing so before the next race.
All in all, the first weekend of the race season was a hugesuccess and really helped with team moral. We all look forward to the nextrace.
